Panel Reference: 2 Memorial: PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL Family History He was married to Elizabeth Lowe and was the father of Thomas Eric Lowe. They lived at 17 Bombay Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham. The obituary on December 1914 gives the family's address as Holden Street, and the 'in memoriam' notice in November 1915 gives their address as Bunbury Street. MUNTON, JOHN

Memorial: POZIERES MEMORIAL Family History He was the son of Joseph and Eliza Munton and the brother of William Abraham, Grace Ellen, Albert, Elsie, Leslie and Evelyn Munton. In 1911 they lived at 57 Bombay Street Nottingham. Military History Formerly 4701 9th Bn Sherwood Foresters with whom he served on Gallipoli with, entering theatre on 6 September 1915 and arrived at Suvla on 14 September. On 22 April 1918, the 7th Lincoln's were on the Somme attempting to halt the German advance and taking heavy casualties. John has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. Military History
Pte. Pearson volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France. He was a member of 'A' Company in 1st Battalion and took part in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, which began on 10/03/1915. The village was soon captured. The Foresters advanced a 1,000 yards to the north of the village but were held up by machine gun fire. The men held their position throughout the next day, but were subjected to shelling and heavy small arms fire. Though a slight advance was made the battalion soon came to a stop. It was during the fighting on 11/03/1915 that Pte. Pearson was killed in action.
