GALLON, Martin
Source: Picture the Past website - see link below Martin signed up when he was underage. His mother found out in time and went down to the recruiting office and got him out - she was a working class woman with 'colourful' language! Martin may well have been especially motivated because his father was German. They lived on Blue Bell Hill in St. Ann's, where anti-German feeling resulted in abuse and broken windows. He later joined the Royal Navy. Studio portrait of Martin Gallon in WWI soldier's uniform. External Link |
