ST ANN'S WELL ROAD PRE DEMOLITION (1970)
Hi. Folks,
Can you think of any one who originated or had very strong connections with St Ann’s Well Rd Pre Demolition (1970) who later on in life went on to find fame & fortune, and eventually became extremely well known personalities? Shall I make a start.... I would prefer to limit to people from St. Ann’s if you don’t mind as I indicated in my original posting, otherwise it will go on & on & tend to drift away from the original point I was trying make...St. Ann’s Pre. Demolition (1970) Trust you understand folks Tony. “Cyril Stapleton” who used to live up Westminster St. he went to Morley School in the same class as my Dad in the late 1920’s...who later went on to be an extremely famous leader of a very well known Dance Orchestra. “Alma Reville” Lived on Gt. Freeman Street. St Ann’s and later moved out to live in L. A. California U. S. A. and married Alfred Hitchcock the famous Film Director. “Barry Howard” From Howards the Butchers 211 St. Ann’s Well Rd. who went on to the world of light entertainment...in particular playing a leading role in the very famous B.B.C. TV Comedy series “Hi De Hi” playing the very effeminate Dancing Teacher “Julie Effingham” I.T.V. Newsreader & Journalist Granddaughter of Mr. Salt Headmaster of the Infant & Junior “Board School ”Fred Strecker” Proprietor of Streckers the Butchers on St. Ann’s Well Rd. “Champion Speedway Rider” Even John Player included him in their Famous Sportsmen Cigarette Card collection.. alongside other famous stars Dennis Compton, Stanley Mathews etc. etc. that all the boys used to collect, save & play for. I have one or two more up my sleeve....but any one else that you might feel comes in the same kind of category.... come on Folks & surprise us all.. “Ooh...Well I never .......who would have believed it.... “Fred Reacher” Lived on The Wells Rd. and went on to be The Chairman of “Nottingham Forest” when they won “The European Cup” twice when Brian Clough was his Team Manager ....Tony Miller |

Henry Normal (real name Peter James Carroll, wrote Philomena 15 August 1956) - writer, poet, TV and film producer, founder of the Manchester Poetry Festival (now the Manchester Literature Festival) and co-founder of the Nottingham Poetry Festival. In June 2017 he was honoured with a special BAFTA for services to television. He set up Baby Cow Productions with Steve Coogan in 1999, and was its managing director until his retirement in 2016.
