He was the son of James a coal miner and farm labourer who died in 1911 and Mary Haywood. George was one of ten children two of whom died in infancy. The family moved to Rose Hill Farm St Matthias Road Sneinton before 1891 and still lived there in 1911. Employment/Hobbies He was a blacksmith striker. Employment/Hobbies He was a member of 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club). At the time of the 1911 Census he was an errand boy. Courtesy of Murray Biddle Family History He was the son of Edmund Christmas who was born at Cambridge in 1869 and worked as a gardener and later caretaker. His mother Ellen was born at Derby also in 1869. He was the brother of Emma Gladys (b.1896), Lois Barnett (b.1900), Dorothea Phyllis (b.1902), Edward Basil (b. 1903), Leslie Bernard (b.1905), George Cyril (b.1910) and Alfred Barnett (b.1910) Christmas. The family lived at 7 Woodhouse Street Nottingham, before moving to 31 St Matthias Road Sneinton Nottingham. Military History Christmas was called up for service and trained with the Royal Fusiliers with No. G/21330. He later transferred to 113th Company of the Machine Gun Corps and following training he was drafted to France. In December 1916 the battalion was holding the line in the Ypres Salient in Begium during a period of relative quiet. However, he was killed in action on 02/12/1917 near the village of Boezinge, north of Ypres and buried at Essex Farm Cemetery. Rank Private Service number 3402 Date of death 19 Feb 1915 Age at death 22 Military Unit 2nd Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) Family History Joseph was born in 1893 in Nottingham, he was the son of Frederick George William, a needle maker and Harriett Crinage née Mills of 87 St Mathias Road, Nottingham. In both the 1901 and 1911 census the family are living at 87 St Matthias Road, Nottingham, Employment/Hobbies He was a joiner in 1911 Military History Private Joseph Crinage, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment) He landed in France on 11th November 1914. He died of wounds at No. 19 Field Ambulance on 19th February 1915. MURPHY, WILLIAM
Rank Private Service number 27384 Date of death 03 May 1917 Age at death 19 Military Unit 1st Bn Royal Warwickshire Regiment Family History William Murphy was born in 1898 in Nottingham and was the son of John William Flinders Murphy a general post office engineer and Charlotte Murphy, of 36, St. Matthias Rd., Nottingham His father was born in 1868 in Nottingham and his mother Charlotte Cleaver in 1870 also in Nottingham, they were married in 1888 in Nottingham. Employment/Hobbies Member of the 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club) Military History Formerly 4610 Private, Sherwood Foresters; transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
