Is there any ladies who used to save for their bottom drawer, in preparation for their wedding day? I remember having quite a lot of things, but mum scored them all when I emigrated. Mind you she did buy me most of the things which was very exciting, good old mum...
Kath Whitham

Angie Miles
I can't believe some of the wedding lists I have encountered. Not just kitchenware and linen items, they list washing machines, tv, tumble dryers. What was wrong with getting three toasters X. Ha ha , it's a different world X
Patricia Ann Terrington
They don't need bottom drawers nowadays - just a credit card!!!! I've still got some Dorma sheets that I bought for my bottom drawer from the Co-Op in 1972 - they were "seconds" but the best I could afford on my wage!
Elaine Rutter
First thing I bought was a pedal bin lol xx
John David Randall
We are still using a Pyrex dinner service we bought before we wed in 1965.
Kay Burford
And the rolling pin to bash future hubby over the head if he got out of line.
Pat Ricia

Susan Carberry
Oh I loved saving for my bottom drawer , ,
Had loads of things towels I've still got! Tea towels, cutlery, dinner / tea set and Pyrex bowls from Toby’s. Sale. And a swan saucepan set, blue handles and knobs complete with a chip pan, which I've still got and use.. It doesn't look 46 years old but it is! It was 3 guineas. My ironing board is about same age to another bottom drawer buy! Don't think they would know what bottom drawer saves are today as my sister said “you only need a credit card and you can fill a chest of drawers!”
BerylRoy Morris
I still use my set of stainless steel pans not bottom drawer but new for my move to Clifton from demolition 1969 still looking very good. Have bought others since but I am back to using them again outlive the new ones much better quality
Lesley Dudley
I can remember buying lots of kitchen items fir my bottom drawer from pastry cutters right up to full saucepan set...bedding, linen even saved coupons off food items got a full set of mixing bowls that fitted inside each other all with lids. My daughter gets married in march and as they have already set up home and live together the suggestion on invitations is to give a donation for the honeymoon which they plan to take later in the year. No luxury holiday abroad in my day it was an overnight stay at the Savoy hotel...considered a luxury then. How times change
Sue Johnson
You get a poem with you invite these days requesting money towards honeymoon etc lol .not quite so romantic nowadays
Margi Dunum
We never had a honeymoon; we went out to the Futurist so that if any of our so-called friends came round to the house being funny we should not be there! Consequently we find it hard to give money to other people for their honeymoons in exotic places. Most of them don't need it, or anything else for that matter. Miserable pair we are!
Sue Johnson
Not miserable Margi Dunum .its true xx
Joyce Law
I started at the age of nearly 16 and began with tea towels and pillow cases.
Andrew Harper
Until only a couple of years ago we had a stainless steel carving dish that we won on the prize Bingo at Great Yarmouth! I remember we won a lot of stuff on that stall which we used for years, also quite a few things we got with cigarette coupons...hard to believe now eh!
Christine Seagrave Auld

Angie Miles
