Flewitt St (Alfred St South to Young St)
......"I was born at no. 8 Flewitt Street, 1944. Old tin bath on the yard wall, we kept a few chicken until Xmas, Billy Boy was the cock. Slept in the attic when I had chicken pox. Tiny scullery, mam struggling to cook in it. Outside toilet with torn up newspaper to use...............lots of spiders, we didn't waste much time in there....And collecting horse manure off the cobbled streets to put on the back 'garden'. Dad called it HOSS MUCK.
Geoff Jackson
Another Flewitt Street photo this time in colour! Me and my young wife taken in the early seventies shortly before the last residents were kicked out and the houses pulled down. Wright Street in the background, the car was my old Standard Eight which was the first car I owned and cost me £20.
