Alan Clay: ..." My grandfathers shoe repair shop was on the bottom left of the picture where the red car is parked, his name was Albert Clay,he was blinded in the 1914-18 war but was taught how to repair shoes."
Sid Wheeldon: "I remember Mr Clay Tony, my Dad always took his shoes to be Soled & Heeled to him, but I didn't know Mr Clay was Blind, Bless him he was a smashing chap I recall and a Very good Cobbler according to my old Dad we only lived not far from Dame Agnes street on Cathcart Street."

These pictures ( below) were taken some time in the early 1930s in the garden of 36 Dame Agnes Street and show my great-grandmother Elizabeth Ann (formerly Bakewell) with her second husband, George Smith, her widowed daughter Laura Lord and three of her grandchildren, Ken Bakewell (my Dad - the dark-haired boy) and Roy and Gladys Lord. Elizabeth died in the house in 1946 and Laura in 1965. Roy died suddenly in hospital a year later - I was a child, but I remember the phone call from Gladys announcing his death and my father and my grandparents travelling to Nottingham for his funeral. Gladys continued living in the house on her own until 1970 and then spent the rest of her life in Sneinton. I would love to know if anyone still remembers any of my family. Trish Gurney 10 March 2018
