Family History Joined the Royal Navy in 1912 and in 1916 both he and his brother Charles were killed within a few months of each other, their mother was living at 1 Nile Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. An article in the local paper about the boys also gives their address as 1 Nile Street. George's CWGC record names both parents and gives their address as 1 Nile Street. Charles' CWGC record gives no personal information. Military History HMS Shark. John George joined the Royal Navy on 9 April 1912 on a 12 year engagement when he was 18 years old. He was killed at the Battle of Jutland; his body was not recovered for burial and he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. In the 1911 census the family are living at 53 Fyne Street, Beck Street, Everett is married in 1914 in Nottingham to his wife Mary Ellanor Military Unit 2nd Bn The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Military History Everett Arthur Gale was a professional soldier and had joined the army prior to the outbreak of the Great War, in the 1911 census he is at home but shown as being in the army. He served with the 2nd battalion the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. With his battalion he landed in East Africa on 16th October 1914. With his battalion he fought in Africa until 1916 when they were transferred to the Suez Canal and Egypt. Extra Information Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 23 January 1919: 'Gale. They had two children, Frederick and William. In 1911 they lived at 30, Beck Street, St Ann's Nottingham. Employment/Hobbies He was a a comb hand in the lace trade. Awarded DCM DCM Distinguished Conduct Medal Ward's DCM was won while serving with 15th Battalion for his conduct during a German trench raid on 30th May 1916. It was Gazetted on 27th July 1916: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. His Company Commander was wounded, but refused to leave his post. Pte. Ward remained with him. When the enemy were rushing the trench Pte. Ward was ordered to take a report to Bde.
