Hi. Folks,
Due to the “Lock down” trying to take regular exercise we decided to walk in to Town instead of taking the usual bus...Mapperley Plains down to Vicky Centre...walking down Woodborough Rd. just before the old Sycamore Rd. now Hungerhill Rd. noticed a plaque on the wall of some recently beautifully restored “Lambley Almshouses”... they look very “Watson Fothergill” in there design pic attached....thank goodness they weren’t knocked down as well ... We of course got the back home yes a number 47 ..a nice St. Ann’s touch Tony & Ann. 23 Nov 2020 ...follow here |

MARSHALL, Albert

Grave Reference: 5414 Cemetery: NOTTINGHAM GENERAL CEMETERY Family History He was the youngest son of Stephen and Sarah Marshall who at the time of his death were living at 19A Woodborough Road, Nottingham. In 1891 Stephen and Sarah were living at 11 Wellington Street, Nottingham, in the parish of St Andrew. There were four children recorded in the household; Herbert (13), Henry (11), Frances (9) and Albert (6). Employment/Hobbies He was a bottler when he joined the Royal Navy in 1900. Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 4 January 1919: 'Marshall. On January 1st, Albert, youngest son of Stephen and Sarah Marshall of 19A Woodborough Road and of the HMS Landrail, accidentally drowned while returning from leave, after 19 years service, aged 34 years. Cemetery: VENDRESSE BRITISH CEMETERY Family History William Charles was born in 1887 (birth registered Apr/May/June), the son of William and Mary Miller. In 1891 William (70, b. Nottingham), Mary (43 b. Alfreton), William Charles (4) and an older sister, Annie (20, b. Nottingham), were living at Foxhall House Lodge, Nottingham; William senior was a gardener. Information in army records indicates that Annie was William Charles' half-sister and the age difference between his parents, together with information on census returns that Annie was William's daughter, suggest that William Charles was the child of a second marriage. By 1901 the family was living at 266 Woodborough Road; his father was still working as a gardener. William Charles joined the army in 1906 and in 1911 was serving at Woolwich. Employment/Hobbies In 1901 he was an apprentice plumber and his occupation described as plumber when he enlisted in the army in 1906; he was a regular soldier. In 1911 Albert (18), a plumber, was living at 78 Woodborough Road, Nottingham, with his father, step-mother and step-sister, Sarah Minnie (14) a lace hand. Albert's half-brother, George Henry, served with the 17th Bn Sherwood Foresters (30409, Corporal) and was killed on 3 September 1916 (Thiepval Memorial). He left a wife and children. Albert was unmarried but named Miss Alice Maud Marshall of 9 Woodville Road, Sherwood, Nottingham, as his legatee. Employment/Hobbies In 1911 he was a plumber.
