BLUEBELL HILL SCHOOL

​The school was opened in 1883 by the Nottingham School Board - situated at the junction of Bluebell Hill Road and Pym Street. The small building with a gable end was the school hall mainly used by the infants. The attached building contained the junior school upstairs, with the infants on the ground floor; the school closed in 1973, and was demolished in 1974.

Bluebell Hill school - Miss Barker's class, I believe. 1960/61. I am sitting on front row, second from right, with David Withers next to me. My best friend at school was Brian Clarke, on 3rd row from front - 3rd from left. I've tried to locate him recently but to no avail. Perhaps anyone know his whereabouts ? These two pictures were taken at Bluebell Hill School in the late 1920s - in both cases on Empire Day (24th May - Queen Victoria's birthday!) My Dad, Ken Bakewell, is standing furthest right on the first picture and is the boy wearing a turban and holding a packet of tea to represent India in the second one. I would be interested to know if anyone recognises any family members on either of these pictures. Trish Gurney

Geoff Jackson: "This is a Blue Bell Hill photo taken in approx 1961 on a trip to Bunny Woods. There was kids from different classes on the trip. I remember I took boiled egg sandwiches which led to some complaints about the smell on the bus!"
