He was known as 'Billie'. He was the son of William and Mary Johnson of Nottingham and the brother of Kathleen, Agnes Mary, Dorothy and Margaret Johnson. In 1911 they lived at 7 Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham. He was the husband of Elizabeth Johnson, 2 Garnet Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham. At the time of William's death his mother and sisters were living at 7 Rushworth Road, West Bridgford (obit).
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 10 October 1917: 'Johnson. Died of wounds September 25th 1917, Gunner William (Billie) Johnson RGA, aged 30. Wife and babies.'
