"The owner of the little shop on Cathcart Street was Dolly Calladine the friend was her Partner of course in those Days we didn't know anything did we ? I once worked for Dolly every night for 2 weeks after school pushing a wooden wheelbarrow all round St Anns taking out orders just before Xmas I was 11 yrs old I said to Dolly save my wages till Xmas so I can buy my mum a nice present but if she gives me 2 Cigarettes for my mum after I finished each night she could then pay me what was left 2 days before Xmas exhausted from trudging up and down Senty with this Barrow with Groceries in them, she Gave me Half a Crown & 2 x 1penny Arrow Bars after 2 weeks including the 14 cigs I took my dear old mum each night . my mum went over and came back with a 10 bob note for me and said none of us would work for Dolly again ,she never did tell me what she said to Dolly Calladine bless her.. but I got my mum a box of Black Magic & a pkt of Wine gums for Xmas wrapped in real Xmas Paper ... |

Henry later lived at 5 Allington's Buildings Bath Street Grimsby. In 1911 George lived with his grandparents David and Mary Barnes at 138 Cathcart Street St Ann's Nottingham.

Tom Dale was born in 1886 the son of Thomas Dale a general labourer and Mary Ann Dale née Woolley of 23 Howard Street Nottingham. His parents, both born at Nottingham in 1859, were married in 1877. They had six children two of whom died in infancy prior to 1911. Tom’s surviving siblings were Harry b.1881, Lucy b.1888 and Fred b.1892. In 1911 the family lived at 23 Howard Street Nottingham. Tom in 1911 lived at 22 Cathcart Street St Ann’s Nottingham with Millicent Handley (b. 1887) his housekeeper who became his sole legatee.

In 1911 he was a hawker.
Military History
Tom enlisted at Nottingham landing in France on 3rd November 1915. He was subsequently transferred to the Persian Gulf Mesopotamia where he was killed in action on 6th April 1916.
