Married in Nottingham, they had eight children six surviving infancy - Charles b.1895 (killed in action 19/12/1915), Benjamin b.1899 (killed in action 3/10/1918), Henry b.1902, John b.1904, Thomas b.1906 and Mark b.1910. In 1910 they lived at 44 Milk Square Glasshouse Street and in 1911 at 4 Alvey’s Yard Fisher Gate (both Nottingham). CUSICK, Michael
Rank Private Service number 4390 Employment/Hobbies In 1911 he worked in the boot trade and was a carter upon enlistment. Date of death 09 Aug 1915 Age at death 20 Military Unit 2nd Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) Family History Michael’s siblings were James b.1889 (died of wounds 15/2/1919), Mary b.1891, Sabina b.1893, John b.1901 and Catherine b.1911. In 1901 they lived at 7 Snow Hill, in 1911 at 29 Glasshouse Street and later at 6 York Court, Beck Street, Millstone Lane (all Nottingham). Military History Michael Cusick joined the Special Reserve on 13th May 1912 at Nottingham aged 17 years and 7 months. He served with the 4th battalion Sherwood Foresters . Following the outbreak of war he was embodied and landed in France on 11th November 1914. He was killed in action on 9th August 1915 at Hooge whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. Extra Information Michael's brother John Cusick also served: John Cusick enlisted on 13th October 1917, joining the Sherwood Foresters before transferring to 1st Battalion King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He landed in France on 13th June 1918. Rejoining the Army post-war, he had a very mixed military record during his service with 1st Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. HICKINGBOTTOM, Charles
Rank Private Service number 4379 Date of death 12 Nov 1917 Age at death 25 Military Unit 16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) Employment/Hobbies In 1911 he was employed as a coal miner and this was still his occupation when he was sent to France in 1914. Family History Charles was the son of William and Selina Hickingbottom and born abt. 1893. In 1911 William and Selina were living at 13 Glasshouse Street, Nottingham, with their seven children: John (29), Polly (25), Henry (23), Charles (19), Sarah (15), William (14) and Arthur (12). When Charles enlisted as a special reservist in April the following year he gave his address as the family home, 7 Careys Place, Coalpit Lane, Nottingham. His next of kin were listed as his parents and his four brothers, John being noted as 'serving in Sherwood Foresters'. Charles married Mabel Whitehead at St Paul's church, Nottingham, on 18 October 1913. At the time of Charles' death Mabel was living at Dennett's Terrace, Sneinton Road; she was awarded a pension of 13s 9d in May 1918.
