Does anyone remember a Mr. Stone the ironmongers on St.Ann's Well Rd, And Mr.Prefect the Optician, both shops were down Curzon St. one to the left and the Opticians to the right - click here to follow this comment link
Did anyone know Mrs. Frettingham, who lived on Curzon St.? My sister just told me she was the midwife who delivered us 3 kids above the shop on Union Rd click here to follow this comment link

Kay Burford Yes Barrie i seem to remember the back of the Empress cinema was along there as well, as i recall my sister used to flirt with some of the chaps who worked there, they used to stand outside on a top balcony leaning over and chatting my sis. up. lol. A bit further on was the Berry's lodge, with the big clock above it, they had a bull dog behind the fence, and it was very frightening walking past it... Then of course was the old bus station with a corner cafe at the end where the drivers used to go and have their cuppa's..

Tony Ann Miller So sad when you see the streets all boarded up...just waiting to be knocked down. My wife Ann used to live right at the top where the St. meets Union Rd...been up this St. many a time..walking...on my motorbike...and in my first car...memories. Ah...

Kay Burford My neck of the woods..A boy named Raymond Spencer lived on this St, he used to give all the kids dinkies on the seat of his racing bike from the top of Union Rd.He would go so fast and turn into the St. where the pub is, going round that corner we had to lean with him or we would have come off..the worst part was having to walk all the way back up.. If he'd have charged us for the rides he could have made a small fortune because there was always quite a queue waiting for their turn...He was a very popular lad...
