Terry Sleaford ...........I remember this so well from the mid 50s! Steps leading down from Shelton St and the sound of laughter coming from the pub (Princess Royal?). Me & my sister had to stand outside with a bottle of pop and a bag of crisps while mum & dad had a good time with friends inside. Can still smell the fags & ale mixed together each time the door opened. Happy days! .........Paul Key: " The image taken from the Shelton Street end of the steps, the houses to the left were on Princess Terrace. The white building was the Princess Royal Public House on Northumberland Street at number 89, the terraced housing fronting was also Northumberland Street., it was at number 65 Northumberland street that Thomas Humber started Humber cycles, Humber became a significant employer in the emerging industry of Nottingham, most notable the Humber works at Beeston."
Northumberland St 1970.
At the top of the steps is Shelton Street and on the right corner at the top of the steps is Shelton Street School woodworking class room, turning right into Shelton Street you would see Watkin Street......... the school open is on the right.
The top floor of the two storey building in the centre of the photo was the woodwork shop for the Huntingdon Street boys school. The teachers were Mr Serle and Mr Thomson.
