Seventeen year-old Lance Corporal George Ernest Manlove Higgs, served with the 2nd Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 9th September 1916 buried in Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval (grave ref XI.H.19)
One of four boys who enlisted directly from Mundella school; all killed. (Mundella Magazine, Christmas 1918). Slightly wounded September 1917 and admitted to a field hospital; killed in action the day he returned to his unit.

“HIGGS. – Killed in action, September 9th, 1916, Lance-Corporal George Manlove Higgs, 17 years, King's Royal Rifles, dearly beloved grandson of Mrs. Manlove, 3, Hawkridge-street.”
