Ransom Rd. Here we might see the Boys Brigade on a Sunday morning just leaving the Canon Lewis building to march down to St Anns Church on St Anns Well Rd.
If we turn right we will walk past Cromer Rd - arriving at The Wells Road, and St Anns Well Rd
Straight ahead is St Bartholomews Rd also known as Donkey Hill

- I remember being a boy scout at the bottom of Ransom Road the we built a new scout hut half way up Ransom Road. The leader was Skip he drove a London taxi and lived around Richmond Ave. We would march every other week through 'Senty' with our band; everyone would stop and watch. I was a played the bewgal (bugle) sorry didn't know how to spell it. (Memories)..Darren Boyes Click here to follow comment link

From the bottom of Coppice Road and up to Mapperley were gardens and the Rifle Range (the Butts) where the local Volunteer Regiment did their firing practice. - The Coppice 'Rec' has a long history indeed. My mother recalls that the annual Flower Shows (Rose Show?) Horticultural shows were held here too. She recalled marquees being there. Can you just imagine the sight!?...Mavis Baker Click here to follow this comment link
- I would like to award a Blue Plaque to Shepard’s Race garage bottom off Ransom Road and Wells Rd. In 1967 when I was nine, the owner of that garage let me work there washing cars and pumping petrol, then later they showed me a couple of things about cars, like changing tyres, spark plugs, and more. I was working in a garage before most kids had started delivering newspapers. Because of that experience, it opened me up to the mechanical world - a field I still work In, and I still like to tinker with cars when I'm not doing repair work on houses and properties or anything else. I say there is nothing wrong with a kid getting some experience if they can handle the job....Clarence George-Antonio Shim Click here to view photo and follow comment link

Coppice Rec. playing football with an old school mate "Geggy" Brian Guest ex Norland Rd approx. 1954. Brian was a very good sportsman...Cricket, Football, you name - it he could play it..and he usually was the "Goalie" so at least he kept warm. Don't ask me why I have got a tie on - happy times "Up on the Rec." Tony Miller
- I remember at one end of Coppice Rec there was this Old Tunnel which was about a quarter mile long. As Kids we used go through the tunnel and hang out there. Does anyone know if it's the Carlton Tunnel? I read somewhere it was an old train tunnel? Clarence George-Antonio Shim Click here to follow this comment link

BILBIE, WILLIAM
Brother of George Enest Bilbie (above)
William Bilbie, my great uncle, was killed in action during World War 1, he was born in St.Anns, Nottingham but emigrated to Canada as a young man seeking a better life. He was called up to join the Ontario Regiment of the Canadian Infantry leaving his young wife Ruby May Bilbie (who was pregnant) to fight for the Allies on the Western Front.
After surviving one of the bloodiest battles at Vimy Ridge he was killed near the town of of Cite Saint Laurent on the road to Lens.
Going by his military records it is unlikely that William Bilbie ever returned to Canada so would probably never have seen his son.
PRIVATE WILLIAM BILBIE killed in action 9th August 1917 by a shell to head and shoulders, buried where lay no known grave.
He is commemorated on the Vimy War Memorial an imposing site on the hill of the famous battle.
Like many others he gave his tomorrow so we could have our today. RIP
