His Father worked at a Lace factory as a brass winder and in 1901 the family were living at 45 North Ville Street, Nottingham. They were still there in 1911 but by then his Mother had died. Henry had three younger brothers and a younger sister Ada who died aged 6 in 1905. Henry had left school by 1911 and was a Meat Salesman. In 1912 he married Fanny Whitchurch and they had two children, a daughter Ada born 1912 and a son John born 1914. By the time Henry had enlisted the family had moved to live in Gedling Military History Henry enlisted at Nottingham. He embarked for France 7 June 1915. He died of his wounds and is buried at the Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension, France. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He qualified for the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Family History In 1911 Ernest (30) and Edith (29) were living at 8 Victory Yard, Barker Gate, Nottingham, with their three children, Ernest (4), Annie (2) and Elsie May (4 months). Ernest was a general labourer and Edith worked for a rag and paper merchant. By 1917 the family had moved to 27 Livelles (Northville?) Street, St Ann's, Nottingham. In 1911 Albert was serving with 1st Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) at Gough Barracks, Trimulgherry Deccan, India. His brother, 7082 Private Ernest Gay, 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry, was killed on 2 November 1914, and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial. Employment/Hobbies Albert Gay was a professional soldier.
